It was a rather quiet day at work, as always; to Eiki Shiki's credit, most of the people arriving had been sent straight to Heaven, or instructed to pass through the Netherworld. As for those who she'd had to sentence to Hell, well, she did as much as she could. Her own actions could only do so much, after all, and those unwilling to change could not change. And people who she'd tried to advise who didn't follow her propositions might as well go to Hell anyway. She'd tried hard enough, and couldn't force them to change their ways. At this point, the shinigami's work was good as done too--if Eiki was finished with her judging people, then Komachi had completed her ferrying for the day. The souls waiting for judgement (though she'd tried to finish up with everyone visible) at this point would have to wait until tomorrow.

Once work was over, the yama didn't have much to worry about, little more than a quick glance at the regulations that she had long memorized already, perhaps a little cleaning up to do at her own home. She didn't usually bring work home, anyway, but she wasn't there during the day, and it was getting a little dusty...those sort of mainly pointless thoughts occupied her mind on the way home. She had little to do herself, after all.

She walked slowly, taking her time of it, and glanced around Hell--it was always the same. Nothing ever happened or changed like it did in other places; though it wasn't supposed to, with only her as a main inhabitant and the people she had sentenced, it might have been nice for a change of pace, at least once in a while. She didn't want any disruptions to happen at work, or something like the flowering incident, but maybe a nice surprise of some sort? While she didn't hate her work, it became tedious at times. Komachi tended to slack off many times, and she'd have to scold her subordinate, once again (though today she seemed to be doing fine), at that was as far as 'out of the ordinary' as things went. Life went smoothly. It just wasn't particularly interesting at times.

Eiki let out a deep sigh, quickening her pace as her home appeared several hundred yards away; she'd get home soon enough, perhaps read some books on law or something since she didn't have anyone on her list to deal with.

Footsteps sounded behind her, and she grew curious--nobody visited her in Hell much, and not at this time, after work hours. Who could it be? Komachi always came in with a cheery greeting, and she was probably home by now, after all. The yama turned around, rod of remorse tapping against her lips, as she always did when contemplating something, to greet the person in front of her.

"Hm?"

"Hm?"

The satori floated into the newer hell with the thought of Koishi endlessly drifting in her mind. It had been days since her sibling had returned from aimlessly roaming the land of Gensokyo on her own. Worry collected in her heart, she prayed someone would sense her desperation and assist with locating her beloved sister. She figured perhaps she wandered into Hell merely to explore. However, Satori discarded that thought as the heat was extremely uncomfortable to be in and she knew Koishi would have easily been bored if there wasn't something preoccupying her attention instantly.
Ugh...I wonder how Okuu even managed working under these conditions... She contemplated recalling her friend working in the former Hell of Blazing Fires.
She proceeded onward, determined to leave no spot empty of her observation. The youkai was fully aware of her siblings' closed off heart, but perhaps she would be lucky and just a spark of her heart would be visible to the Mistress of the Palace of Earth Spirits. Floating, she placed two hands delicately on the temples of her head and focused immensely.
There didn't seem to be any trace of thoughts nearby, but she knew this wasn't the end of Hell. After all, her powers could only reach so far. She emerged herself further, the temperatures were rising up.
She then spotted a figure, a figure that could possibly be her sister. She dropped and raced towards the blur, only to halt as she grew closer and discover this wasn't the satori.
The other heard her loud steps, Satori's expression looked a bit embarrassed as she was face to face with the yama. She hardly resembled her younger sister.
"Oh...You're not Koishi..." She whispered disappointingly. "I apologize if I caused any inconvenience..." She apologized earnestly. She began reading the yama's heart. Perhaps noting the appearance of another satori would trigger a memory that would show Koishi.

The yama recognized the figure in front of her as Satori Komeiji: distinguishable third eye; dress that, somehow, resembled fancy pajamas more than anything; somewhat tired-looking expression but eyes still alert; lavender-coloured hair that seemed to have a life of its own, this time just a tad neater. Coupled with a worried expression and the mutual knowledge that the two of them had rather busy jobs, Eiki could guess that something urgent must have happened in the Former Hell or the Palace of the Earth Spirits.

She acknowledged the satori with a nod, accepting and then dismissing her apology, standing more upright and watching attentively at Satori's actions. She's said 'you're not Koishi', which must have meant that the younger sister had...gone missing again. It wasn't exactly the first time Koishi had gone missing, Eiki knew; it wasn't uncommon for Koishi to disappear mysteriously and turn up again after a few days, in fact. The yama tried to recall her memories of the past few days, knowing that Satori was likely reading her thoughts at the moment as well, but couldn't seem to remember seeing Koishi around Hell at all. It was already lucky for Eiki that she could remember Koishi properly; being only a subconscious, and having the power that she did, Eiki--with all her power--might not even be able to remember Koishi. But her mind wasn't getting the odd sense of deja vu, and she concluded that she had not seen Koishi around at all.

Jurisdiction [Closed] 4112

Satori had probably heard her whole thought process in her mind, but Eiki spoke out loud anyway. "It's no problem...I assume your sister has gone missing?" Rhetorical question stated just to make sure they were on the same track, she answered, "I haven't seen her the past few days, nor has anything odd happened in Hell lately. Since Hell is naturally so warm, it's not something a typical person would be able to stand for such a long time besides me, anyway, so here--mind the pun--isn't exactly a hotspot for runaways. Rather, those who come here are more like the people looking to be caught. I'm judging them, after all, and I can't help but see the light and dark in any person whenever I look at them." Eiki's fondness of lecturing and having lengthy replies to others had not faded, ever, it seemed; of course, with a life like the judge had, she'd given some hour-long lectures to people quite often before. Never was she off-topic, of course--she just liked to be detailed and thorough, but it was hard to stop her once she'd gone off on such a tangent.

If the mistress of the Palace of the Earth Spirits had to journey all the way from Former Hell to current Hell, Koishi must have been gone a fair amount of time longer than usual, the yama deduced, and Satori must have looked nearly everywhere before arriving here. Parts like Hell, Makai, or the Netherworld were far off enough that people usually didn't bother traveling to such places. It was after work and there were no pressing matters for herself, so Eiki figured she might as well join Satori and pursue the matter a bit further. Tapping her rod of remorse a few times against her lips, she proceeded to question the other on the sudden disappearance of her sister.

Jurisdiction [Closed] 5110

"So tell me, Satori-san, more about Koishi-san's disappearance?" she queried, figuring that even if the two were not on the most familiar of terms, using their last names to refer to the two would be thoroughly confusing. "How long has she been gone, when was she gone, what are her most likely places, and such. Anything ought to help."

A wave of thoughts flooded Satori's heart. Judging her slip of the tongue, the yama was more than aware of Koishi's disappearance and acknowledged her missing status was not an uncommon occurrence around the underground. Her thoughts indicated that the fretting youkai's sibling had not been seen around the pits of hell. She sighed longingly and sagged her shoulders a bit as she finished scanning Eiki's mind. Suddenly, her focus was ruptured by the yama's words and her posture instantly improved.
"Oh, yes...Much longer than usual. Shame she hasn't roamed around here..." She spaced out a bit as Eiki went on with her lectures. It wasn't uncommon to stop paying attention when the yama began rambling excessively. She always thought hell was an easier punishment to endure opposed to Eiki's sermons. In the meantime, the youkai contemplated the location of her sibling, relaxing her posture again. Satori knew if she wasn't underground, Koishi would be above ground, where her kind weren't allowed to roam due to their detestable powers. Suddenly, Eiki's voice dimmed. Satori quickly disguised her distraction and scanned her thoughts to recall what the yama had said moments ago.
The youkai's eyes glowed a bit as she read her recent thoughts, she was fortunate she would have assistance with the situation. Two heads were certainly better than one.
This time she listened closely as Eiki began to talk again. As she finished, she responded with all the information she could sprout at the top of her head.
"She usually takes small trips and returns back within a few days, Eiki-san...But its been over a week since she's arrived back home. None of my pets have even caught a glimpse of her, which would be unlikely anyways seeing as her power grants her an ability to become invisible to the subconscious...I'm assuming if she's not around here, she must be up on the surface...She'd been there before and told me tales of a girl who gave her curiosity and a desire to meet new people...She must be up there," She rambled, trying to include all the important details.
She hoped that would be enough to perhaps deducted something. She figured it wouldn't really, but perhaps a bit of advice from the yama would assist her in her journey to locate the missing satori.

"I see. So she has been gone several days now. More than usual, am I correct?" Eiki nodded to herself, leaving the rhetoric, simply reiterating what Satori had said. It was common enough for Koishi to idle off on her own, disappear and then return for a few days, here and there. However, being gone for over a week was unusual, according to Satori. Eiki knew little about Koishi, really--she was merely a subconscious, after all, and could easily erase herself from even Eiki's memories, if she so wished. The yama knew little of the satori's habits, was unaware of what her 'favorite' places would be like. Of course, if Koishi really wanted to disappear and yet still be semi-conscious, she would have avoided her favorite places--and Satori would have already checked them.

Satori had mentioned 'up there'. That meant the majority of the living world to cover; must expanse to travel. Eiki would be unable to help if they had to search that far, as it would deter a bit too much from her work, which had zero breaks. So she had to help as much as she could now, figure that if she went with little sleep this night they could solve the matter if they were quick, smart, and deductive. Her mind flicked back to Satori's words and went ahead to let the mistress read Eiki's thoughts.

Jurisdiction [Closed] 2710

She could rule out anywhere nearby Hell and the Palace of the Earth Spirits--in fact, Netherworld and the Underworld were out of the question. Hakugyokurou wasn't a good place to hide anyway, not without disrupting the daily life of the ghost and half-ghost there. However, past the Sanzo River, there were nearly endless places to hide, unnoticed, if one wanted to. Eiki went through a check of what she remembered as accurately as she could as a mind-map of Gensokyo. Past the Sanzu River, the river branched toward Misty Lake, of which the Scarlet Devil Mansion and the Prismriver Mansion was nearby, as well as the youkai mountain. The Prismrivers' wasn't a common place to visit, so it was a possibility, but because the three sisters got out so much, it was unlikely. The Scarlet Devil Mansion was hard to hide in, anyway; the youkai mountain, a forest full of sentries and tengu. Dense forest and rolling hills occupied the in-between sorts of spaces, an easy place to roam around nearly unnoticed, but somewhere hard to find interesting things to do. She didn't take Koishi as the type who did a lot of introspection and self-reflection, no, the satori was more likely someone who always wanted to be around others, to speak to other people and interact with them. So the human village was as typical a place as any to go, very easy to disappear in with all the people...but that made it seem a bit too easy, didn't it?

The yama doubted Koishi as being able to survive the poison where the doll-youkai lived, nor the twists and turns of the bamboo forest; then there was the Forest of Magic, far enough from the Palace to hide, and nearby, the sunflower garden and the graveyards--even farther away, high up in the sky, would lie the ship, of course...hardly an easy place to get to, however. Aside from more obvious places where it was easy to disappear from life and the minds of everyone, this really might turn out to be a rather difficult matter.

Jurisdiction [Closed] 1810

They had been quiet a very long time, Eiki in deep thought, tapping her rod of remorse against her lips, Satori reading her thoughts to follow her deductions. This sudden disappearance of Koishi from anywhere would take some time to resolve. The judge exhaled deeply, stretching her arms slightly, knowing that Satori had as well processed all that she was thinking. Aloud, she prompted, "Would you like to, perhaps...come with me to my home? This matter might take some discussion, if Koishi's disappearance is truly so serious."

Satori responded with a gentle and swift nod as the yama repeated her words, reviewing the information she had obtained from the worrisome mistress. Regardless of consent from the judge, she scanned her thoughts, observing each word as it echoed in the satori's head. It's no wonder she's reviled by anyone who didn't happen to be solely a beast. She was intrusive and noisy and refused to be robbed of any information any person she had in contact they may hold deep in their hearts.
A map of Gensokyo was exposed to Satori. It was rather vast and long and...Bright...Her kind's abilities forced her to reside with the other vile and misunderstood beings. In the underground, it was a conflicting place to make a home in. It was chilly yet humid, a grotesque combination. If she decided to emerge to the surface, she would be greeted with animosity. Another constant reminder of how unwanted her abilities were.
Different locations were presented to her. One after another, a scenery came and faded away into the vast nothingness of the subconscious. Satori's heart was overwhelmed at how many locations her sister could be secluded in. Her worried heart was in the tight grasp of anxiety. Her mouth unintentional gaped open, her expression twisted into one of horror.
The map of Gensokyo was suddenly wiped away as the yama's voice shattered the silence. Her face resumed its typical expression. She had invited the satori to her home.
This was one of the most cordial expressions anyone has ever offered to her. After years of secluding herself away from away from the population of Gensokyo, she had never had anyone personally invite them to their home. She was touched.
A small flashed onto her pale face.
"Yes, I'd appreciate that," She responded.

(( I'm sorry it's so late! ))

"This way, then."

Jurisdiction [Closed] 3510

The judge smiled slightly, before turning and continuing along the path she was previously interrupted from taking, the other behind her. The home was not far away, already in sight once she took a turn, but still some time away. Her previous quick pace slowed down, and she let her mind wander, her body taking the mechanical route now as she focused on the problem once more. Considering the large scale that Gensokyo was, this search could prove to be a bit troublesome. The even bigger problem was that the subconscious could easily disguise herself from anyone's presence, so their journeyed efforts could prove entirely futile. Asking around was pointless, since Koishi's existence was generally forgotten the second she was out of view, face wiped from one's mind as easily as taking a breath. Unless Satori had distinctly told someone of Koishi's existence or Koishi herself didn't want others to forget her, nobody would remember the satori's appearance anywhere, save for a slight feeling of deja vu. But that wouldn't help their search any bit.

Perhaps Koishi could have even been in the Palace of the Earth Spirits while her sister was in Hell with Eiki. With Satori away from the home, it could become another hiding place, another place where she could easily disappear and not return for several days as long as Satori didn't come back home. Eiki would hate to waste so much time, and it would have helped if Satori had some part of her power that could pinpoint her sister's location, perhaps a shred of evidence where Koishi had gone...

Jurisdiction [Closed] 3710

The judge shut off that thought immediately, knowing that Satori was listening in on her thoughts, a mental apology to the other that she didn't mean any offense by it. Now, what had Satori told her that could help? The mistress of the palace had mentioned 'tales of a girl who gave her curiosity and a desire to meet new people'. Would that mean, then, that part of the reason why Koishi disappeared here and there was that she was in the living world, 'meeting these new people'? Nobody came to mind when she tried to think of someone as enlightening somehow, the word 'enlightenment' quickly leading to thoughts of those religious leaders and Taoists and Buddhists and whatnot. The denizens of the Palace didn't exactly dawdle in those types of spiritual workings, however, and while the nearly-missionaries such as Toyosatomimi no Miko sought to have their religion widely spread, they tended to be either forceful or rambling, far from the expected enlightenment they were actually supposed to give. No, they were not part of this.

Who had, then, been involved with the incident with the hell-raven? Satori, Koishi, her pets Rin and Utsuho, the prime culprits; those who had indirectly been a part of the incident, the Moriya Shrine resident gods Suwako, Sanae, and Kanako; those few others who lived in Old Hell who she had no suspicions of; and then those self-appointed to seek out the source of the incident themselves--the shrine maiden and magician as well as their youkai communicators. Those several were of the highest possibility, and Eiki tried to recall her personal conversation and lecture given to those two so long ago during the flower incident. The witch, whose carefree attitude and easygoing personality made her a genial person, but not exactly one to be very educational nor useful. The shrine maiden, who everyone seemed to widely regard as a sort of celebrity, although when Eiki spoke to her, she seemed rather rude and accusational more than anything. Perhaps if she asked Satori, she would have some insight.

Jurisdiction [Closed] 3410

"Tell me, Satori-san, have you had any recent interaction with the magician, Marisa Kirisame, and the shrine maiden, Reimu Hakurei? As well as those residents of the Moriya Shrine?"

The youkai followed the yama diligently. Though the two did not speak a word, the words emitting from the yama's black and white heart were enough to provide a wide range conversation. Just as she had before, the mistress of the Earth Palace scanned it thoroughly, looking at every piece of evidence with great care. Similar to the way a detective would take time and effort to reveal the correlation between each clue to piece together a mystery. The yama noted in her sibling's accursed ability to induce a sudden wipe of their memory as soon as they remove eye contact with the serene satori.
She softly bit her lip as she was yet again reminded of her ability. The satori prayed everyday that something would open up her beloved sibling's closed heart. The elder sibling was fully aware of the fear Koishi had endured, but she missed the old personality that she was familiar with for so long. While it seemed the youkai was finally at peace with the world around her and finally learned to build a barricade against the malicious opinions that came with the price of being able to read minds, she knew it was not Koishi who had done this.
Her darling Koishi was not the individual who learned to deal with the overwhelming fear to be loved by those around her. Her voided personality was the one who taught her how to feel without fear and that was what Satori felt most disappointed with. Her precious sister was voided of her true personality and became empty to those around her, nothing more than a figment of their imagination and at most, a beloved playmate soon to be buried further and further beneath other thoughts.
She sighed softly, ignoring the subtle despair building in her heart and moved on with Eiki's lengthy thoughts. She mentioned religious figures in her heart, something she generally did not take interest in. After all, she had much more important business to deal with besides than the obnoxious amount of rules that dictated her way of living. She lead a sinful life anyways, surrounded by a toxic influence of those with despised powers and awful dispositions. However, she would never stoop to such levels, she just adapted by adopting a cynical viewpoint of the cruel world beneath the crust. Satori merely lead her pets to maintaining the abandoned hell located by her palace, desiring peace and quiet for the introverted mistress, she did not need someone patronizing her and determining whether or not she was a good person.
Continuing on, she listened closely as she heard her think of the two who rudely accused her of being responsible for the incident committed by her most trusted pets. She was astonished that these two were so popular in the world of the above. She found it ironic that this pair was so charismatic among others despite their rash and vicious nature.
Suddenly, her train of thought was punctured by the yama's question.
"Ah, yes...I'm familiar with both the magician and shrine maiden. They didn't make the best of first impressions. They came in insisting for a battle. I was astonished by the power they held," She stopped for a moment, trying to resurface any knowledge of those who lived in the Moriya Shrine. "I know Kanako was responsible for influencing Okuu's desire for power...I'm aware that there are others who live there, but I'm not all that knowledgeable of who they are, but I think Koishi mentioned meeting the shrine maiden who served them and the other god who lives in the shrine. Koishi went up there trying to ask for power from them, but I doubt they would have given her something for her pets. Even if she had, I don't think Koishi would have been stupid with it even if she is a bit...Whimsical."
