A Past Stained With Scarlet (CLOSED)

The sun was finished from its work. The sky begin shifting began shifting from an array of orange, reds and purples to a black. The sky began to be blanketed with this color and the moon exchanged positions with the sun, offering its subtle beauty and allowing the viewer to peaceful gaze upon it. No longer was the atmosphere bustling and brash, it was now peaceful. At least to some people. While most individuals would be preparing to fall asleep, a certain family was just beginning their day.
A group of vampires resided in a magnificent home. It was the largest mansion in all of their town. However, while it was strikingly impressive, it dragged a reputation more fearsome than the night itself. The family that lived inside the home, happened to be a small family of vampires. Thomas Scarlet, the father, Ophelia Scarlet, the mother, and their two kids Remilia and Flandre.
Despite their callous and grotesque nature, they were all rather regal. even with their sole diet of human blood. They lived peacefully and organized sacrifices by offering the town protection so long as they bring them a steady meal every few days. While the Scarlets would prefer a more constant meal, they supposed this would have to due.
Remilia awoke in her ornate bedroom. It was coated in a maroon paint bordered with golden filigree. Toys were littered about. (though she hardly played with them) And items suited for young girls her age filled the room. She hopped out from her pink canopy bed and began preparing for the night. She grabbed a fresh pair of clothes and exchanged them with her sleepwear. After the ritual was complete, she flew to the exit, twisted the nob on her door and walked calmly out of her room.
Like her bedroom, the hallways were blanketed in dark red, giving the impression that someone spilled blood on the way and inducing an eerie atmosphere. The kids of the home didn't mind, they had been here all their lives and had grown accustomed to it, not to mention it was easier on their frail eyes. If anything, it was comforting.
Remilia searched about for her younger sibling, she knew for a fact she would be awake, if anything...Flandre was usually awake before the blue haired child.

Flandre was indeed awake. Multiple ruffles and frustrated noises came from her room before she opened the door, finally changed into her normal clothes and out of her sleepwear. She had tripped over many of her toys, as well as almost ripped her dress on a crystal. She poked a crystal on her wing, irritated. Born with deformed wings, Flandre had just now had crystals starting to grow on the wings. She walked into the red hallway, looking around for her sister and wondering if she was awake. She didn't close her door as she walked down the hallway towards her sister's room.

"Remi? Are you awake yet?" She called, gazing down the dark hallway.

The sound of an open door caught the young vampire's ear. A child's busy footsteps emitted ahead of Remilia. As she began following the source, her sibling's youthful voice echoed from the dark hallway. The elder sister responded placidly, maturity rang in her calm and delicate voice.
"Yes, Flandre, I'm awake,"
In moments the two were reunited. She was face to face with the younger vampire. For seconds she gazed curiously at Flandre's unique wings. They weren't like the rest of the family, large and bat-like, but more like ornaments. Lined with crystals just beginning their formation. She contemplated how much they'll grow. She prayed not too much. While beautiful, they were rather impractical.
She interrupted her gaze and looked at Flandre in the eye, hoping the younger sister would have not caught her staring at her strange deformity. She respected her insecurity, but she was a curious child.
"Do you know if Mother and Father are awake yet?" She questioned Flandre flatly. It was a bit unlikely for them to be awake before the kids, but she wanted to begin a conversation. She looked over her shoulder, it was rather simple considering Remilia was the taller daughter of the pair. She scanned swiftly for the sight of their parents.

"Okay, good." Flandre said. Her voice was child-like and happy. She did notice Remilia glancing at her wings, and she self-consciously lowered them a little. She felt like the odd one out when it came to wings in the family. Flandre's sister and her parents all had the usual bat wings, while she was stuck with what were looking more and more like light up toys with each passing day and night. It made Flandre feel embarrassed at times, especially when she did accidentally tear things like her clothing on the crystals. They were tiny right now, but they were also incredibly sharp. When Remilia asked if their parents were awake, Flandre's tone seemed a little quieter due to her self-consciousness as she replied with a simple, "I don't know." She stood up on her tippy toes as she turned around just so she could look taller then Remilia while searching for her mama and papa. Of course, the whole trying to look taller thing wasn't really working. At all.

Remilia noted the shift in her younger sister's voice. She bit her lip gently. Clearly her subtle glance at Flandre's unconventional wings were spotted. The vampire was tempted to apologize, but she was too cowardly to admit it. Instead of owning up to her mistake, she swapped the topic with the discussion of the location of their parents.
As she looked over her younger sibling's head, Flandre began to stand on the tips of her toes. Remilia grunted a bit with frustration, she placed a hand on her sister's head and pressed her down, making Flandre's feet lay flat. After scanning the hallways for a moment, she resumed her conversation with Flandre.
"Well, I guess they're not awake," She retorted flatly while shrugging. "I wish they would wake up, I'm getting hungry..."
It had been days since the family fed. Remilia was aware today was the day their parents would bring blood to feed the family. She wasn't exactly aware of the procedure the adults took to obtain their food, but she wasn't concerned. So long as her tummy wasn't rumbling for the rest of the evening.

Flandre let out a small squeak as Remilia pressed her down. She then simply continued to glance around, hoping to spot their parents. "I don't think they are awake either," Flandre agreed, tone a little flat in dissapointment. Flandre was hungry after all. Her parents had to go out and buy the blood today. That was how it worked, right? Flandre crossed her arms over her stomach.

"What do you think we should do until they wake up?" Flandre asked her sister, usual happy tone re-entering her voice. "Or should we go and try to wake them up?" Flandre suggested, moving a little bit away from her sister and a little bit towards her parents room.

Remilia contemplated for a moment, looking down, deep in thought. Various ideas flooded her mind, but one happened to outshine them all. Perhaps they would get the blood themselves? After all, her parents would be proud of the two for being responsible and not relying on them. The two haven't stepped foot outside of their secluded and safe mansion. Remilia was tempted to explore outside of her home. She was positive Flandre would agree, after all, Remi was the older sister thus she decided what the pair would do.
"Hey, Flan. I think I have a plan. Let's surprise Mama and Papa and go out and get it ourselves! Think how glad they'll be to see how mature we've become if they knew we got it!" She announced, a light in her bright red eyes flourished. "What do you say? Are you in?"
Honestly Remilia didn't even know how to obtain the blood in the first place. Perhaps there's merchants who would help the pair?

Flandre's eyes lit up. A chance to prove she was mature and to feed herself? That sounded great! "Of course I'm in!" Flandre grinned cheerfully. "'Sides, I wanna go outside and explore. Then, we can go buy the blood and come home!" She smiled at her sister. "You always have the best ideas, Remi. Should we go now?" There was a excited spark in Flandre's deep red eyes, and she kept bouncing just a little bit.

Remilia smiled as she basked in Flandre's excitement. It She looked around again, making sure her parents weren't awake. Thankfully, the corridors were as empty as they were moments before. Her attention then fled to Flandre as she continued speaking to her older sister in adoration. She was certinally flattered, but would refuse to show any gratitude and brushed it off with haughtiness.
"I know, you're lucky to have a sister like me" She giggled. "We'll be going in a second, just wait here. I'll come back with some money so we can head off and buy it," She ordered, holding one hand in front of her sister, signaling for her to stay put.
With a turn of her body, Remilia walked slowly to their parents' room, walking on the tip of her toes making sure not to make a sound. She would especially have to be careful as her enormous wings had a bit of a tendency to knock things over. As she faced the door, she slowly turned the nob, making sure it didn't squeak loudly. Remilia entered the room, a dim light cut through the darkness as she opened the door. Her petite body easily slide into the room without too much light illuminating it. She gently shut the door behind her. It seemed her parents weren't disturbed by her entrance. She eyed them carefully, her mother's blonde locks were coating her face and she could hear slight snoring emitting from her. As for her father, he was on his side, his wings covering him like a blanket. They seem to be sleeping peacefully, not disturbed by her sudden entrance.
The young vampire then slid into their closet and she looked through her father's clothes. Placing a small, delicate porcelain hand into the pockets of her father's pitch black suit. She felt a squarish, leather coated figure in her hand. She instantly recognized it as her father's wallet. Remilia removed her hand from the pocket with the wallet in her grip. The vampire then sneaked carefully out of the room, careful not to bring too much light back into the room or a single sound. She shut the door behind her quietly and sprinted towards Flandre with a victorious smile planted on her face, her white fangs sticking out.
"Got it!" She announced as she arrived. Remilia grew closer to Flandre and opened the wallet, showing her the money they would use to purchase their meal but immediately shut it in case Flandre decided to swipe it away from the elder sibling.

Flandre watched Remilia go into their parents room, crossing her fingers that it would go okay. When Remilia came outside into the halls with the wallet, Flandre beamed and then tried to take the money from her older sibling. Of course, Remilia was too fast and Flandre was left empty-handed. "Aw." Flandre muttered, glancing at Remilia holding the wallet. "Should we go now?" Flandre asked. "I mean, we're ready, right?"

Remilia nodded while responding with a curt yes. She decided just to take the traditional way out of the home by exiting the entrance. The vampire grasped her younger sister's wrist using her free hand and tugged her forward as she began to head towards to the door leading to their freedom. She walked briskly, excited to make it out before her parents woke from their sleep and found their precious children missing.
The sound of footsteps echoed through the corridor. She hoped she wouldn't awake the servants either, so she began to slow her pace in case someone would wake up to the sound of the daughter's scurrying through the mansion.
Moments later the siblings arrived to their destination. In front of them was a massive door. She released Flandre and approached it. Since the door happened to be too tall for her, she went on the tips of her toes to pull open the door. A sudden cold air sprung in as the door gently opened. Remilia pulled back further, revealing the world beyond their home.

Flandre didn't object to practically being dragged along. She backed up a little as cold air hit her face and she admired the world outside the mansion. "C'mon, Remi! Let's go explore!" She said in a hushed yet energetic whisper. Flandre pretty much bolted out the door, not bothering to wait for Remilia as she took in all the sights and sounds. The cold air actually felt good to her and she grinned towards the moon, white fangs showing. "It's so beautiful out here~"

The chilly air slammed Remilia in the face, she sort of twisted her face into an expression of discontent but quickly adjusted to the differing temperatures. She watched Flandre bolt away, her red clothing contrasting against the dark surroundings. Unlike her, however, she calmly walked, taking in the scenery. For moments she planted her feet in the ground, absorbing ever detail she possibly could. Her head shifted into many directions, trying to take in all of the setting. White flowers were planted all around, the moon exposing their immaculate beauty as it shone on their delicate, pale petals.
She walked forward and heard Flandre remark the obvious. "It really is..." She responded in an astonished tone.
Remilia walked forward towards the pond nearby the gate. She peered into it, gazing at the still pool of water. It's stillness appeared to her almost like a mirror. Unfortunately, her vampric status didn't allow her a reflection and the only thing that was being showcased in the water happened to be the large, pale orb in the sky.
Finished with the scenery, she approached the gate. Remilia grabbed it's metal bars and stared outside. It was a dark road but as she looked closer she noticed there happened to be a small flicker of lights flashing in the distance. That must be the village!
"Flandre, let's get going!" She called out to her sister, hopping a bit as excitement filled her petite body.

Flandre stared at the water for a few moments, watching the moon, before paying attention to Remilia again. She could see the village too. "Okay, lead the way!" Flandre playfully saluted. She couldn't wait to get out and explore. "Mama and papa are going to be so proud of us!" She cheered, jumping into the air before crashing back down. "...oof." She stood back up. Flandre... Wasn't always exactly graceful.

Remilia was always content to know she had a sister as naive and dependent as her, the little vampire adored anyone who stroked her ego on a daily basis. It was a major fault of hers, but she hadn’t endured anything to tell her otherwise. Remilia’s position stiffened, trying her hardest to maintain a posh air as she wanted her sister to understand that she was competent enough to lead her. She walked gracefully, balancing subtly on the tips of her toes to make her look a tad bit taller than she really.
As she watched Flandre innocently fall to the ground, she giggled. Placing a hand to her mouth to prevent any embarrassment to the younger vampire. Ignoring the endearing act, Remilia flew over the gate, finding it pointless to open it up when she had wings to assist her. As she leaped over the gate, she flexed her enormous wings and glided for a moment only to settle down as soon as she took to the air. She folded them in as her tiny feet touched the ground steps away from their mansion.
Her gaze turned to the gate, where Flandre was still behind.
"Come on!" She called.

Flandre nodded. She went over to the gate, jumping up again and this time flapping her wings a few times. Her landing and short flight weren't as great as Remilia's. She sort of crashed the second she got over the gate. Flying with wings like these wasn't easy! Flandre stood back up, dusting herself off as she did and glaring at her own wings. "I'm here!" She said as she stood up, digging her little feet into the ground.

The elder sister approached Flandre, grasped her even smaller, pale hand and dragged her gently towards the road to the village beyond them. For now, it seemed like a minuscule speck in the distance, a harsh glow of orange among the dark blue atmosphere but soon it'll turn bigger as the girls grew closer to it.
They walked forward and were surrounded by trees, while it would have frightened most children, but due to the sister's desensitization of horror, it was ordinary to them. After a while, the Scarlet sisters were presented with a bustling village. Remi's eyes grew wide and gasped a bit as she took in the whole new environment.

Flandre looked around, mouth hanging open in awe. Lights in the many buildings hurt her very sensitive eyes, so she squinted to look at the bustling humans all around. The noise was almost overwhelming. Flandre was used to a quiet, dark enviorment. While she really did want to explore, it would take her a few minutes to regain the motivation to move at all. Light pouring out of windows reflected in her eyes as she watched the noisy scene. What were they doing? Without asking, Flandre climbed onto Remilia's shoulders for a better look. She accidentally stepped on one of Remilia's huge wings rather hard. "Oops!" She whispered apologetically. With the lights everywhere, the light reflected off of Flandre's tiny crystals, which made it very obvious where the two sisters were. Even if the crystals were small, the glowing blue, green and red was hard to miss.

This was clearly a harsh contrast juxtaposing their quiet and serene home. The almost blinding lights were much different opposed to the cool atmosphere of their secluded and dim home. It was bustling, not a person stood still as they were all rushing back and forth completing any remaining tasks before the night was truly declared done. Remilia was then interrupted as she felt a pair of small hands climb on her body. Her head cocked back swiftly and suddenly felt a painful amount of pressure squish one of her enormous wings. Using the free wing she batted Flandre off. The older sister swiftly turned around with hands on her hip pouting at the younger sibling.
"Flandre!" She scolded. Remilia sighed and went back to looking. Without glancing back, she spoke to Flandre again, trying to avoid any frustrated tones slipping into her voice. "Where do you think they sell the food, Flandre?" She asked.

Flandre was knocked off of her sisters back, landing on the ground with a thud. She stood up, wincing as she rubbed her back. She completely ignored Remilia's scolding, instead gazing around the busy crowd. "I can't see." Flandre pouted. It was too bright and noisy! "Can you see?" She asked.

Once again she grasped Flandre's thin wrists and pulled her forward to the lit village. She didn't want to lose her younger sibling in such a busy environment.

This time, Flandre didn't like that she was being dragged. She tried to pull away from Remilia, to no avail. So she just gave up and was dragged along. "Where are we going?" She asked, curious. "Do you know where the food shop is? Will you be able to tell in this crowd? Why are all the people running around? How do they put up with all the lights? How do they put up with all the noise?" Flandre apparently decided to take the role of that annoying sibling that shoots out a million questions. The blonde once again tried to pull away from Remilia.

The elder sister ignored the barrage of questions the quarrelsome sibling asked. To ensure the younger vampire did not sneak away from her, she tightened her grip. However, she made sure not to press down hard enough induce any pain. The pair then moved closer to the village, entering into the harshly lit area.
As they grew closer to blending in with the fast paced scene, Remilia noted how panicked this group of people were. She thought to herself that perhaps they were just completing some last minute errands, but it seemed like everyone had some sort of anxious expression on their face. The petite vampire heard some hysterical crying in the background and found herself involuntarily building a tight knot in her stomach. She stopped in her tracks and looked at her little sibling, unsure of what to make of the situation.
Suddenly, a shrill voice broke the sound of feet walking and people shuffling about.
"T-they're here! The vampires are here!"
Everyone stopped in their tracks and looked towards the pair. The sound of dropping objects filled the area and everyone flew into a panic. Cries and anger filled the area puncturing the previous stable atmosphere.  Remilia pushed her younger sister back defensively, while her stomach suddenly froze and she felt fear building up in her small body, she tried her best to assume a brave facade. After all, it was the duty of an elder sister to keep the younger one safe.

Flandre froze, body tensing as the shrill cry pierced her eardrums. "R-Remilia? What's going on? Why are they upset?" The younger vampire whined, confused. She could feel the same tight knot clenching in her stomach. She let her older sister push her back. Flandre's small wings flared out in an instinctive attempt to intimidate everyone now that she felt fear, even though they looked little more then tiny black sticks with a few colorful shards on them. Everything had turned from calm to fear and panic-inducing in a matter of seconds, and it was overwhelming the tiny vampire.

Remilia eyed the crowd with horror. Fear gripped her ankles and anchored her to the ground, rendering her involuntarily immobile. She completely ignored her frightened younger sibling's words and blankly stared at the calamity in front of her with her mouth gaping open.
Among the fearful screams and angry yelling, a voice sliced through all of the cacophony.
"Idiots, get the vampires before the devils get us! Get the holy water! Garlic! Anything!"
The ruckus resumed, the villagers scrambled about grabbing any supplies that could annihilate the siblings.
Suddenly the villagers ran towards the vampires with malicious intent, hands stretched out ready to grip them and tear them apart. Some held torches while others carried pitchforks.
Remilia took a step back, finally free from her stationary behavior. She turned around grasped Flandre by the shoulder and spun her towards the opposite direction and pushed her viciously.
"Run, Flandre, run!"
